VAA provided structural engineering services for new 60,000 square foot facility, which includes two maintenance areas, warehouse and office area. The 20,000 square foot office space included several unique architectural components such as two story glazing and mechanically operated sun shades.
Structural systems of maintenance shop and warehouse include precast concrete walls with metal roof deck and office is 2-story with composite steel and concrete floor.
The facility includes two shops, one for heavy equipment, earth moving construction equipment, and one for over the road trucks.
The maintenance shop includes two overhead cranes, each with a 20 ton capacity, to lift motors and parts out of heavy equipment trucks. The shop also includes a storage mezzanine and wash bay for trucks.
The shop has a heavy concrete slab industrial floor with metallic hardener. It was important these floor slabs were able to withstand the wear of tracked vehicle traffic, like bulldozers. There were a number of special requirements for this floor as well as the requirement for overhead cranes. Our structural team developed the required specifications based on our years of experience working with Ziegler.
