Wisconsin Industrial Sand
Hager City, WI

VAA was retained by a design-build contractor to provide design and engineering services for the replacement of an existing sand screening facility. The design included replacing an existing facility located approximately 5 miles off site from the main entrance, and utilize as much of the structural and mechanical components as possible from the existing facility.

The components of the facility included truck receiving, drying, scalping, screening, storage, truck and rail load out. The new facility operates at 300 tons an hour, and has the capability to load out 21 rail cars per day.

The facility was comprised mostly of new steel structures, including a 92' tall screening building that included 6 large screeners. This building posed a challenge to design due to the excessive vibrations caused by the screeners. VAA was able to design a structure that while remaining economical, presented minimal vibrations when running at full capacity.

VAA was able to analyze existing storage tanks and conveyor trusses on site.  VAA also provided modifications so that they could be reused in the existing facility. This saved the owner a great deal of money and the contractor time ordering and waiting for new equipment to be delivered. VAA was also able to design conveyor support structures using existing structural materials taken from the existing facility.

Along with doing the design and engineering of the facility, VAA also provided dust control system duct layout & shop drawings for the new construction.
